SaviNG ENERGY AT HOME
Here some super simple steps to saving tonnes of energy at home:
- Turn off all lights when not in use.
- Plug out all electrical appliances at night- don't just leave them on standby!!
- Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth.
- If your tap is dripping get it fixed, you are wasting more water than you realise!
- Close your curtains at night to keep the heat in.
- Take a shower rather than a bath.
- Replace incandescent light bulbs with energy-efficient halogens, CFLs or LEDs to save 30-80% on electricity bills.
- Insulate your home. Add new or additional insulation to your ceilings, attic and walls.
- Replace old appliances with Energy Star certified appliances.
Being energy efficient at home - the benefits:
- By saving energy, less fossil fuels are burnt, less harmful gases are released and therefore you will be helping to reduce climate change
- By reducing climate change the effects of climate change can be reversed, for example the ice caps will stop melting, sea levels will stop rising and low lying areas will not flood so easily. This will save the lives of many people and animals whose homes and habitats are in danger.
- By using less energy you will lower electricity and heating bills and this will save you money
- Energy efficiency enhances quality of life and will make your home more comfortable
